Helping Disabled Customers
We have spent over £78m on making our services more accessible to disabled people, and 93% of our UK branch network is now accessible.
Our eventual target is for all our UK branches to have accessible features.
92% of Barclays and Woolwich cash machines are at a height that suits wheelchair users, and two thirds of the remainder will be made accessible by the end of 2007.
We are helping people with learning disabilities get equal access, partly by funding 'It's Your Money', a booklet from Employers' Forum on Disability which explains banking in clear terms.

How we treat our people: Highlights for 2005
We were 27th out of 80 companies in the first ever Employers Forum on Disability benchmarking exercise.
Barclays Capital US was named Employer of the Year by the National Business and Disability Council.
In the 2005 employee opinion survey, 80% of our employees agreed that 'management supports equality and diversity in the workplace' (75% in 2004). [ii]
Leading on disability
The number of people identifying themselves as disabled in our Employee Opinion Survey has gone up by 22% since 2004. [iii]
We have increased the support available to disabled employees, ensuring we remove as many barriers as possible to enable all colleagues to perform at their best.
Pos+Ability provides a confidential forum for disabled employees and employees with an interest in disability issues to raise concerns and discuss solutions.
This year the network has organised disability awareness sessions across our business and network members helped to set up Barclays centrally run Reasonable Adjustment programme.
This programme ensures necessary adjustments are made to disabled colleagues' working environments to enable them to do their jobs. [iv]
Local Communities
A large part of the UK community budget is administered by our regional community managers who support initiatives that meet the needs of local communities.
In 2005 the themes we focused on were arts, education, disability, the environment, and social inclusion. [v]
